There are a number of meetings and workshops held each year by Butterfly Conservation in which butterfly monitoring is a major component. The main event is the ever-popular national recorder’s meeting which takes place in Birmingham in March, before the new monitoring season begins. This meeting is open to anyone interested in butterflies, their recording, monitoring and conservation, and is also a great opportunity to meet with fellow recorders, ecologists and conservationists from around the country. There is always an exciting programme of talks for the day, with local, national and international perspectives on butterfly recording and conservation, blending on the ground conservation with academic research and much more.

There are also workshops providing guidance on BMS methodology and butterfly identification for example, held throughout the UK, and covering different aspects such as targeted species monitoring depending on location.
